Monday, you whore!
Warning: This is not a bookish post.
So, I know I usually try to do a Music Monday that is inspired by whatever book I’m currently reading (Pretty Ugly Lies and The Breakdown, btw,) but with the U.S. Midterms looming tomorrow, I can’t seem to focus on anything else but that. I’m serious. It’s an addiction. I’ll need to be sedated tomorrow.
I am literally at work right now with all-day news coming through my earbuds. My husband complained over the weekend that all I ever had on was the news so he wasn’t going to be hanging out with me until the midterms were over.
AND I’M CANADIAN.
You might ask yourself, why, as a Canadian don’t I mind my fucking business and focus on my own country? Good question, rude way of asking it though. But, I’ll tell you.
First, I am married to an American. I have American stepkids and in-laws. And though my little family immigrated to Canada and now live under the soft curls of Trudeau’s perfect hair and Sunny Ways with me, they are still American and they still care deeply about their home country (my husband mailed in his absentee ballot last month, voting a straight blue ticket in his NY county that is usually red.) By default, this means I care too. It’s my husband’s country! Helllooooo.

I have to be honest, I did not want to get out of bed this morning. This Monday felt particularly difficult to have to deal with.
Maybe it’s because my weekend went by in a flash. Saturday I was three hours at the hairdresser. I came home to my husband touching up painting that we needed to finish so I couldn’t let him do that alone. Sunday we did our groceries, took the dog to the groomer’s and then I bought new furniture for my rec room.
I’m super excited about this! Our rec room is currently garbage, almost literally. We have a brand new TV down there and all our gaming systems. It’s meant to be the entertainment spot, the gaming spot, the spot to disappear and relax in, but in order to make that happen, it requires painting and new furniture. That furniture includes bookshelves.
Currently, all of my books are still packed away in our laundry room, taking up space in U-Haul boxes. I’ve been dreaming about getting to unpack them and display them the way they should be.
And it’s finally happening!!!
Our couches are a custom order, so it’ll take 8 weeks before they are delivered, which leaves me 8 weeks to paint and put together bookshelves. After that, it’s quite possible you won’t see me again for a couple of weeks while I hunker down in my new comfy space and play PS4 until my eyes bleed.
That being said, when I woke up this morning I was still totally zapped. One way to guarantee I’ll perk up a little bit is good music. And I love a good soundtrack for reading.

It’s some kind of evil trickery that makes the work week feel as if an hour actually takes five to get through, but the weekends are gone in the blink of an eye.
Unfair. And unjust. WEEKEND REFORM NOW!
Anyhooters, we’re going to make the best of another Monday with some tunes and good books.
Right now I’m reading The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager.
I have been waiting with bated breath for this book ever since I closed the covers on Final Girls earlier in the year. That was a huge 5 star read for me.
