Music Monday: Rage Against the Machine – Killing in the Name

Monday, you whore!

Warning: This is not a bookish post.

So, I know I usually try to do a Music Monday that is inspired by whatever book I’m currently reading (Pretty Ugly Lies and The Breakdown, btw,) but with the U.S. Midterms looming tomorrow, I can’t seem to focus on anything else but that. I’m serious. It’s an addiction. I’ll need to be sedated tomorrow.

I am literally at work right now with all-day news coming through my earbuds. My husband complained over the weekend that all I ever had on was the news so he wasn’t going to be hanging out with me until the midterms were over.

AND I’M CANADIAN.

You might ask yourself, why, as a Canadian don’t I mind my fucking business and focus on my own country? Good question, rude way of asking it though. But, I’ll tell you.

Music Monday: The Flys – Got You Where I Want You

I have to be honest, I did not want to get out of bed this morning. This Monday felt particularly difficult to have to deal with.

Maybe it’s because my weekend went by in a flash. Saturday I was three hours at the hairdresser. I came home to my husband touching up painting that we needed to finish so I couldn’t let him do that alone. Sunday we did our groceries, took the dog to the groomer’s and then I bought new furniture for my rec room.

I’m super excited about this! Our rec room is currently garbage, almost literally. We have a brand new TV down there and all our gaming systems. It’s meant to be the entertainment spot, the gaming spot, the spot to disappear and relax in, but in order to make that happen, it requires painting and new furniture. That furniture includes bookshelves.

Currently, all of my books are still packed away in our laundry room, taking up space in U-Haul boxes. I’ve been dreaming about getting to unpack them and display them the way they should be.

And it’s finally happening!!!

Music Monday: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – Red Right Hand

It’s some kind of evil trickery that makes the work week feel as if an hour actually takes five to get through, but the weekends are gone in the blink of an eye.

Unfair. And unjust. WEEKEND REFORM NOW!

Anyhooters, we’re going to make the best of another Monday with some tunes and good books.

Right now I’m reading The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager.

Music Monday: Tool – Schism

To say good morning or not to say good morning? Because it’s Monday, so it is really “good” per se? Perhaps just a grumbled greeting that is completely indecipherable. Did she say words? Did she just groan and gurgle? You don’t know! But you know you were acknowledged.

I’ll be honest. I’m in a terrible fucking mood this morning. I slept like shit and my allergies are going bonkers. But I’m going to soldier on by chugging down this breakfast smoothie and doing a new Music Monday post.

I did this feature post last week for the first time ever and I was sure it would be my only one because it has nothing to do with books.

You might say, “But, Krystin, it’s your blog. You can post whatever the hell you want!” And to that, I say: TRUE.

But I also live by a set of neurotic organization rules that are entirely self-imposed and completely dictated by my borderline O.C.D tendencies and if I don’t follow them I might just snap.

Good morning, indeed.

So, to help my brain deal with these wants vs. needs, I’ve decided that I’m going to do Music Mondays INSPIRED by what I’m currently reading.

Music Monday: Foo Fighters – Best of You

Image result for foo fighters the best of youI’ve opened up on here a little bit before about my previous relationship – the one before I met my husband. Bottom line: it was toxic and abusive. I don’t want to get into the details, but I do want to talk about my TBT post last week.

If you read it, you know I was seeing the Foo Fighters that night in Toronto. It meant a lot more to me than I could explain to be going to this concert. It was a total bucket list item for me. Here’s one big reason why:

In 2012, when I was working up the courage to leave that bad relationship, I listened to The Best of You by the Foo Fighters pretty endlessly. When I was finally out of that bad relationship, I listened to The Best of You more still, to keep me from giving in (“no one else will ever want you“) and going back, like I had multiple times before.

It became my anthem.
