Hey nerdos! Happy Sunday!
It’s been a bit since I did a book nook post and I chalk that up entirely to bad forethought and how absolutely lazy/busy I am on Sundays. By that, I mean Sundays are our “prepare for the week” day – groceries, garbage, making lunches, laundry. All the terrible adulting things that no one wants to do. And by the time we’re done I like to sit on my fucking ass.
That’s RIGHT. I SAID IT.
(I really should be scheduling these.)
But, today is a little bit different. My husband is away so I haven’t done any of our responsible things like usual. That means I get to make a new post instead. This will essentially just be me showing off the hard work we did in my new office/guest room which used to be my oldest stepson’s bedroom (he moved out in the spring.)
My last one of these posts I think I said I’d share the finished product with you all once we were done. It’s been put together for a little while now, and I’ve been breaking it in. Getting used to doing things at my own desk instead of in my bed on a laptop board. I feel so adult (I’m not.)
I also have some beautiful book nooks to share with you all that I’ve collected from all over the internets to get your bookworm envy flowing.
But first, the “before”:
It looks so small here, but just wait. We didn’t repaint, only touched up because I picked the colour of my stepson’s bedroom initially and I still really like it. It’s called stardew or something equally lame.
Also, please note the raccoon dog toy in the middle of the floor. Can’t even do some home reno without the little dude trying to join along in his own special way.

Happy Sunday, nerdos!
This is Booknook Sunday – my one day to talk about home design as it relates to books and my own life.
I’ve had a long past couple of weekends with some reno projects, so I haven’t been able to post booknook decor as much as I intended to, but the good news is, we finally finished renovating our foyer/front hall closet (it only took six weeks!) and even painted the upstairs hallway. I took a queue from Dita Von Teese and went with a deep purple just like her personal library. My husband hates it but I don’t give a shit…

Happy Sunday, y’all! How were your weekends? Let me tell you about mine…
Saturday I hit up the Book Outlet with my mom in St. Catharines. They were having their annual box sale. What’s a box sale you might ask?! Well!!! It’s where they give a giant box like you’re moving, and you get to fill it with books for $35!
I know, it’s amazing. And I wish I could have taken you all with me. I might do a post about my spoils later.
For now though, I’ve got all these new books (and hundred of others I already had boxed away) and still no real place to put them. Damn housing renovations take so long! I wish everything went as fast as an hour episode of something on HGTV.
So let’s take a few minutes to appreciate the beautiful book nooks people are creating for themselves. Drool and envy and daydream, lovers!

Nothing makes me more aware of my ridiculous seasonal depression like having a couple days of sunny warmer weather.
This week we got two glorious days of sun and +11ºC. The dog was happy, the kids were playing tennis. My feet didn’t feel like icicles because I forgot to wear slippers around my house. Then, with malice and hatred, the weather man burst my sunny bubble – calling for a cold front with a snow storm coming up from Texas. FUCK YOU TEXAS.
To get to work today I had to scrape the snow off of my car first. I don’t like doing physical labour first thing in the morning. I cried and my tears literally turned to ice. Okay…that didn’t happen, but I’m seriously just so over this.
So, with my desperate longing for spring in mind, I thought I’d do a Book Nook Sunday totally dedicated to bright spring colours.
I could sit in these rooms and read and forget about the fact that this winter has lasted seventy-eleven years so far.

I bought my first house two years ago this September. We’ve done a few big things to the house so far – paint and furnished the main living room, painted and decorated the bathroom, both of the kids got full bedroom makeovers, including new furniture. We repainted the kitchen, even sanded, cleaned and repainted the cupboards. That was a pain the ass. Do not recommend if you can help it.
All of that in one year! We worked hard, but there is still so much left to do. Sometimes I think I’ll never accomplish it all.
This year I have 3 things on my list:
- Paint the front entrance hallway and convert the coat closet into a mudroom-like sitting area.
- Install a fireplace in the basement.
- Redecorate the rec room, including floor to ceiling bookshelves.
