True Crime Tuesday: Killer Quotes

Please read the “TCT Disclaimer” under the True Crime tab at the top of the page before reading any true crime posts.

This week’s True Crime Tuesday is going to be a little bit different. I’m right in the middle of INTO THE BLACK NOWHERE by Meg Gardiner and it’s, let’s say, inspiring me. The novel is heavily influenced by my favourite serial killer (“favourite” in a most interesting way, not “favourite” in a fangirl way), Ted Bundy. I am NOT one of those people who think he’s handsome and charming. Gross. No.

But he was smart, kind of really lucky a number of times, but overall a fucking sick psycho who confessed to thirty murders and pulled off not one, but two prison breaks? It doesn’t get much more stunningly notorious than that.

Queen Gardiner opens the novel with one of Bundy’s most famous quotes:

“We serial killers are your sons, we are your husbands, we are everywhere. And there will be more of your children dead tomorrow.”

Here’s a couple from him:

“Murder is not about lust and it’s not about violence. It’s about possession. When you feel the last breath of life coming out of the woman, you look into her eyes. At the point, it’s being God.”

“I don’t wanna die, I’m not gonna lie to you I admit that and I’m not asking for clemency, I’m not asking for forgiveness, I’m not asking for sympathy. I know they’re gonna kill me sooner or later. You don’t need to worry about that but there’s a lot of crimes I can solve if the state can just see fit to make me live two or three years longer, I mean look, I know I’m not like other people, I know I can’t feel sympathy for other people but I’m still human.”

“I deserve, certainly, the most extreme punishment society has and society deserves to be protected from me and from others like me, that’s for sure.”

For this week’s post, let’s see what other serial killers have had to say…

🔪Jeffrey Dahmer

Nickname: The Milwaukee Cannibal

Body Count: 17

Sentence: Fifteen consecutive life sentence.

Status: Deceased. He was murdered in prison in 1994 by a fellow inmate.

“I separated the joints, the arm joints, the leg joints, and had to do two boilings. I think I used four boxes of Soilex for each one, put in the upper portion of the body and boiled that for about two hours and then the lower portion for another two hours. The Soilex removes all the flesh, turns it into a jelly like-like substance and it just rinses off. Then I laid the clean bones in a light bleach solution, left them there for a day and spread them out on either newspaper or cloth and let them dry for about a week in the bedroom.”

“I was completely swept along with my own compulsion. I don’t know how else to put it. It didn’t satisfy me completely, so maybe I was thinking, ‘Maybe another one will. Maybe this one will.’ And the numbers started growing and growing and just got out of control, as you can see.”

“My consuming lust was to experience their bodies. I viewed them as objects, as strangers. It is hard for me to believe that a human being could have done what I’ve done.”

🔪John Wayne Gacy

Nickname: The Killer Clown

Body Count: 33

Sentence: Death

Status: Put to death by lethal injection in 1994.

“A clown can get away with murder.”

“If Jeffrey Dahmer doesn’t meet the legal test of insanity, God help the one that does meet it. I mean, it – it has to really be something. If Jeffrey Dahmer doesn’t meet it, then nobody does; and for me, it’s a psychological ploy to use.”

“The idea that I’m a homosexual thrill killer, that I stroll down the streets and stalk young boys and slaughter them… Hell, if you could see my schedule, my work schedule, you knew damn well that I was never out there.”

🔪Aileen Wuornos

Nickname: None

Body Count: 7

Sentence: Death

Status: Executed in Florida in 2002.

“I am a serial killer. I would kill again.”

“I wanted to clear all the lies and let the truth come out. I have hate crawling through my system.”

“I robbed them, and I killed them as cold as ice, and I would do it again, and I know I would kill another person because I’ve hated humans for a long time.”

🔪H.H. Holmes

Nickname: America’s First Serial Killer

Body Count: Confessed to 27, nine confirmed. Could be as high as 200

Sentence: Death

Status: He was hanged in 1896.

“I was born with the devil in me. I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than the poet can help the inspiration to sing..I was born with the evil one standing as my sponsor beside the bed where I was ushered into the world, and he has been with me since.”

🔪Peter Kurten

Nickname: The Vampire of Dusseldorf

Body Count: 7

Sentence: Death

Status: Executed by guillotine in 1931.

“After my head has been chopped off, will I still be able to hear, at least for a moment, the sound of my own blood gushing from my neck? That would be the best pleasure to end all pleasure.”

“I have no remorse. As to whether recollection of my deeds makes me feel ashamed, I will tell you. Thinking back to all the details is not at all unpleasant. I rather enjoy it.”

“In the case of Ohliger, I also sucked blood from the wound on her temple, and from Scheer from the stab in the neck. From the girl Schulte I only licked the blood from her hands. It was the same with the swan in the Hofgarten. I used to stroll at night through the Hofgarten very often, and in the spring of 1930 I noticed a swan sleeping at the edge of the lake. I cut its throat. The blood spurted up and I drank from the stump and ejaculated.”

🔪Albert Fish

Nickname: The Brooklyn Vampire

Body Count: 100 (claimed)

Sentence: Death

Status: Executed in 1936.

“What a thrill that will be if I have to die in the electric chair. It will be the supreme thrill. The only one I haven’t tried.”

“I always had a desire to inflict pain on others and to have others inflict pain on me. I always seemed to enjoy everything that hurt.”

“I like children. They are tasty.”

🔪Edmund Kemper

Nickname: The Co-Ed Butcher

Body Count: 10

Sentence: Life

Status: Imprisoned at California Medical Facility

“When I see a pretty girl walking down the street, I think two things. One part wants to be real nice and sweet, and the other part wonders what her head would look like on a stick.”

“I remember there was actually a sexual thrill…You hear that little pop and pull their heads of and hold their heads up by the hair. Whipping their heads off, their body sitting there. That’d get me off.”

“If I killed them, you know, they couldn’t reject me as a man. It was more or less making a doll out of a human being…and carrying out my fantasies with a doll, a living human doll.”

“I just wanted to see how it felt to shoot Grandma.”

🔪Richard Ramirez

Nickname: The Night Stalker

Body Count: 13

Sentence: Death

Status: Died in 2013 due to complication from cancer.

“I love to kill people. I love to watch them die. I would shoot them in the head and they would wiggle and squirm all over the place, and then just stop. Or I would cut them with a knife and watch their faces turn real white. I love all that blood.”

“Big deal, death comes with the territory. See you in Disneyland.”

“You don’t understand me. You are not expected to. You are not capable of it. I am beyond your experience.”

“Serial killers do, on a small scale, what governments do on a large one. They are products of our times and these are bloodthirsty times.”

For real, fuck these assholes, though.

If you have a suggestion for a case you want to see written up here, pop over to the TCT Suggestions page under the True Crime tab at the top of the page, and send me your ideas!

Stay safe. Be Kind. But, take no shit.

Later, Murderinos ✌️🔪

  1. In high school we were asked to do a project on a serial killer of our choice. I stumbled upon Jeffrey Dahmer and I’m pretty sure that was the moment that got into true crime.
I just couldn’t understand how someone could do such things and feel no guilt, I wanted to understand their rationalization. The psychology of murder I think was always at the heart of my interest.
These quotes are wild and unsettling but also fascinating! Great post!
